Canberra artist wins Hornsby Artwork Prize

CANBERRA artist Solomon Karmel-Shann has received the $10,000 Hornsby Artwork Prize.

His paintings, “A Whispering Flag”, which depicts a troubled younger man strolling away from a crimson flag that towers within the distance on high of the hill.

It was described by the judges as evoking “a way of mystique and an underlying story”.

On receiving the award, Karmel-Shann stated: “‘A Whispering Flag’ is a really private portray, exploring change, troublesome choices, contemplation… a narrative that’s simply out of attain of a conclusion.”
